"Dartmouth's Indigenous community is a vast and beautiful one, with many different communities and cultures present. Indigenous Peoples' month isn't just meant to celebrate our heritage, but to also celebrate all of us who are here now, those who came before us, and those who will come after us. For these combined reasons, I wanted to make those facts clear for this design, trying to point towards our different Indigenous groups, communities, and or cultures that are represented here at Dartmouth, around themes of family, unity, elements and nature. I want to acknowledge however, not everyone is represented here, as our community at Dartmouth is diverse, and it wouldn't be feasible to try and represent every different culture (nor be able to honor each one in a way that does justice in a design such as this). So I hope with this in mind, you can look at these designs and imagery, and not just see the communities that are represented, but to also take time to celebrate all the others who make up our beautiful Indigenous community here at Dartmouth."
